Adrian Clayborn has struck gold.
After achieving an immense six sacks in Sunday’s 27-7 win over the Cowboys, the Falcons pass rusher is set to get paid a whopping $750,000.
Clayborn’s impressive handiwork has earned this incentive for reaching eight takedowns so far this season. ESPN first reported these contract incentives and an even bigger payday is potentially within reach. Clayborn can earn an additional $500,000 with two more sacks and can max out his incentives at $2 million with 12 on the year.
Six sacks in a single game is a Falcons franchise record, and Clayborn is just the fourth player in NFL history to post a six-sack game. The late Derrick Thomas holds the all-time single-game record with seven. It was also the first time any Cowboy’s opponent has ever recorded more than four sacks in one game.
This performance was certainly not predicated from Clayborn, who doesn’t even qualify as Atlanta’s top pass rusher. That said, the bonus is about final numbers – not how you get there.
