NFL analyst Tony Romo has hailed the Green Bay Packers as the ‘team to beat in 2018’. The former Dallas Cowboys QB, who has emerged as one of America’s most trusted NFL experts, has backed the Packers to succeed next season, if their summer acquisitions work out.
Green Bay Packers fans have plenty of reasons to be excited for the upcoming season. The franchise have worked tirelessly over the last few months to reinforce their roster, and it seems that many of their weaknesses from the 2017 season have now been addressed. The Packers have made a number of notable acquisitions since January, bringing in the likes of Muhammed Wilkerson and Tramon Williams, who returns to the Lambeau Field after a four-year absence.
“I think the Packers probably got better more than any team I saw this offseason,” said Romo, via WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee. “It’s early and injuries happen, but right now, they’re right at the top for me as far as a team you wouldn’t want to see in the playoffs.”
The Packers most promising acquisition however, is undoubtedly tight end Jimmy Graham, whom they signed from the Seattle Seahawks on the three-year, $30 million contract back in March. Graham gives the Packers a much needed big target in the middle of the field, and fans will be hoping that the 5x Pro Bowl player can bring the best out of QB Aaron Rodgers.
Tony Romo has highlighted Graham as the key difference-maker for the Packers in 2018, and a big reason whjy they could become the team to avoid in next season’s playoffs.
“The Jimmy Graham thing is a big deal, people don’t understand,” said Romo. “You’re going to see old school Jimmy Graham. You pair him with Aaron Rodgers, you’re going to see a little bit of a different animal. In the red zone, that will be almost unstoppable. If the secondary is a little bit better, I think they’re the team to beat this year.”
Romo, who recently finished his 15th annual football camp in Burlington, Wisconsin, has already been accused of playing up to the local crowds, but the former NFL star has a proven track record when it comes to predicting the future of certain franchises. NFL fans have come to trust Romo’s judgement, and Packers fans will certainly be hoping he’s right about this one.
