It was a matter of time and here it is. After back-to-back losses and now falling to 1-2 on the season, the Edmonton Oilers’ head coach Todd McLellan came out swinging.
He got his message over loud and clear by putting the team through an intense and grueling 60-minute session on Thursday.
McLellan made the team skate until their legs till they were rubber, and then worked the team until they were at exhaustion point, gave them a few seconds to gulp some water and then did it all over again.
McLellan said: “We started at training camp on Day 1 trying to remind the players how hard it is to win, and part of solving that puzzle is work ethic,” Adding: “I thought we were really outworked the other night. We tried to do a lot of things the easy way. Today was a reminder that we have to get back to work.”
Clearly McLellan feels the team needs to work harder but said: “I’m happy the way the guys responded, happy with the effort they put in. Now it has to carry over into Thursday, Friday and the game Saturday.”
