He’s never far from the news and Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is back in the spotlight and under fire for a sexist comment he made during his press conference. No, really, Cam Newton?
Female beat writer Jourdan Rodrigue asked Newton a perfectly reasonable question about his receivers running routes. She asked him whether he enjoys that Devin Funchess has been more physical about the routes he has been running lately. Of course, Newton couldn’t help himself and his response was both immature and uncalled for.
“It’s funny to hear a female talk about routes. It’s funny,” Newton said before answering the question.
Rodrigue addressed the press conference via Twitter afterwards to give her thoughts on Newton’s offhanded remarks. She even suggested that he said even worse things to her after the press conference was concluded when she confronted him about his answer.
Newton, has a history of getting upset and not enjoying press conferences, especially when he loses, we understand that. But he won, and that leaves us to wonder, what was he thinking? .
There was absolutely no reason to bring up the reporter’s gender, and there is no context where it would matter. Man up Cam, an apology is already overdue.
