Olympic bronze medalist Tony Jeffries has claimed that Conor McGregor is a far better boxer than many give him credit for. The Irish MMA superstar is set to take on boxing legend Floyd Mayweather this August, in what is being called ‘the fight of the century’.
Mayweather vs. McGregor is perhaps the most hyped fight in the history of boxing. The five weight world champion will face the current UFC light heavyweight champ on August 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Despite the constant bravado from the two fighters, nobody quite knows what to expect from the fight. The boxing community seem to be leaning towards Mayweather, citing McGregor’s lack of boxing experience as his biggest weakness.
Leaked footage of McGregor sparring with South African boxer Chris Van Heerden recently appeared online. Tony Jeffries (who was present during the session) told Sky Sports: “I was there for the spar and have been there for many spars and they have been competitive, certainly not one way like everyone is making out,”
“People see McGregor take a punch and they jump on him. Van Heerden is a world class boxer though, always in great shape and McGregor gave him problems in there.”
