It looks like another miserable year for Chargers cornerback Jason Verrett. It has been announced that he player will now miss most of this season with a serious knee injury.
In a dreadful run of bad luck, Verrett, who suffered the knee injury during the game in Week One, will now have season-ending surgery.
It’s almost a repeat of last year. Verrett got to play in just four regular season games before suffering a season-ending knee injury. Since joining the Chargers as a first-round draft pick in 2014, the player has played in just 25 career games and by the time this season ends he will have missed 39 games.
It’s not all bad news for the player though. The Chargers decided to pick up Verrett’s fifth-year option, this now means that he’ll be guaranteed a base salary of $8.5 million in 2018. He receives the amount even if his knee injury prevents him from passing a physical next year.
