Everton are close to snapping up 18-year-old winger Josh Bowler from Queens Park Rangers. The Toffees are hoping to finally land the young player after multiple failed bids.
You be forgiven for thinking ‘who the hell is Josh Bowler?’ or more importantly ‘why are Everton putting so much effort into signing a complete unknown?’. Since turning pro last year Bowler has made just one senior appearance for QPR, during a miserable 4-0 defeat to Norwich City at the end of the Championship season.
Behind the scenes, Bowler has slowly worked his way up the ranks at Loftus Road, and now looks to be part of Ian Holloway’s plans for next season’s squad. Despite this, Bowler is rumoured to have refused a new contract with the club and handed in a transfer request, although this has not officially been confirmed.
No doubt Everton’s two failed bids (the most recent reported to be around £1.5 million plus add-ons) have struck a chord with the player, and now Bowler has some pretty big decisions to make.
Should the youngster stay at QPR there is a very real possibility of breaking into the first team, and getting some games under his belt before the age of 21. The alternative however, is signing for one of England’s biggest and most respected clubs, and learning from the great Ronald Koeman.
What would you do?
