Kyrie Irving’s trade to the Boston Celtics was a really big deal. The team that traded him, the Cavaliers, got Isaiah Thomas in the trade knowing that the player was recovering from a hip injury and that they would have to get a player to fill the point guard void until he recovered enough to hit the court.
Cleveland thought that someone was going to be non-other than Derrick Rose, they therefore signed the former MVP to a one-year deal. Good right? Well in theory that was the perfect solution, but, for both the Cavs and Rose, that hasn’t been the case. Rose has been dogged with injuries over the years and this time it’s an ankle problem that won’t go away. In fact, Cleveland look decidedly worse with Rose on the court.
As of Friday, it has been reported that Rose is not on the roster and not with the team. He is in fact in rehab desperately trying to fix the left ankle that has seen him off the court since early November.
The injury and his state of mind has led Rose to reportedly think about his basketball career in general.
Rose was easily one of the leagues most talented players, but with all the injuries over the last 5 years maybe this is the final straw for a player that was unable to play to his full potential.
