The Philadelphia Eagles are holding on to the hope that their defensive tackle Fletcher Cox as well as running back Wendell Smallwood will both be able to play in tomorrow nights game against the Panthers.
One thing they are certain of is that right tackle Lane Johnson will not be available and won’t be traveling with the Eagles to Carolina for Thursday’s matchup.
For the Eagles, that was somewhat expected, with the short week, it made any clearance from the concussion protocol very unlikely.
While Eagles fans are relishing the teams 4-1 start, they have to keep in mind last year’s quick start, which in the end meant nothing as the season was derailed by Johnson being suspended for 10 games for a second PED suspension.
Here’s the problem when you don’t have Johnson on the field, they’re 9-2 when he’s on but 2-8 without him.
Halapoulivaati Vaitai will start at right tackle in his place. (Gesundheit.)
As for Fletcher Cox, he has missed the last two weeks with a calf injury, but participated in full practice yesterday, and coach Doug Pederson said they’d check him during pregame warm-ups to see if he was ready to return.
