Here at RedZone were always looking for interesting stories and this one’s a doozie.
Steve Butcher is an artist fit for any gallery. The New Zealand-based tattoo artist has had mass amounts of praise for his incredible, hyperrealistic portraits. Sport is high on his list of favourite things to tattoo, and quite a few of his artworks have included iconic moments in basketball. Being so good now takes Butcher all over the world to ink clients wanting photo-realistic tattoos.
In a recent interview with Inked Magazine, Butcher explained that he only started tattooing in 2011 after a friend saw one of his paintings and suggested he give it a shot. We’re grateful he did.
Butcher lists fellow tatooists: Dean Sacred, Erin Chance, Nikko Hurtado, Carlos Torres, Matt Jordan, and Mick Squires as some of the artists that originally inspired him and goes on to mention Benjamin Laukis, Dmitriy Samohin, Carlos Rojas and Seunghyun Jo as peers that he respects and is inspired by.
To keep up with Butcher’s every growing portfolio and to view his latest inking, follow him on Instagram where he has a very tidy 326,000 followers.
